Kvass is one of the favorite beverages of the Slavic people. By quality and food properties it is unrivaled. Kvass made of rye and barley malt, it has high taste properties, but also rejuvenates and improves working capacity, since it has a high energy value. In the past centuries, our fellow countrymen could not do without kvass. They drank kvass during work, after work, before and after a meal. Kvass was an every-day beverage. At that, love for kvass never new class borders: the poor and rich drank it with equal pleasure and the latter even preferred it to foreign wines. In Kyiv Rus, kvass was not only a means for slaking one’s thirst, but also a basis for many national dishes and not only cold soups. Dressings and sauces for different dishes were prepared on the basis of kvass. Since the old times, secrets of production of different kinds of kvass have been known: sour, sweet, mint-flavored, okroshka, sweet-scented. Invented over a thousand years ago, kvass enjoys its well-deserved popularity in present days. “Monastyrskiy Kvas” company revived traditions of drinking this beverage and produces kvass by old folk recipes from natural products.
